Toronto, March 26, 2026—The Canada Indigenous Loan Guarantee Corporation (CILGC) is proud to celebrate the appointment of its President and Chief Executive Officer, Kristan Straub, as the next Chancellor of Laurentian University.
A distinguished alumnus, Kristan brings a deep and longstanding connection to Laurentian, reflecting the University’s unique commitment to bilingualism, Indigenous cultures, and service to Northern Ontario. His leadership and experience across the natural resources sector and Indigenous economic development position him well to help guide Laurentian into its next chapter.
In his role as Chancellor, Kristan will support the University’s renewal and strategic direction, while continuing to champion priorities that have defined his career—including advancing Indigenous economic participation, supporting First Nations education, and strengthening reconciliation in post-secondary institutions. His passion for fields such as geoscience, engineering, and Indigenous studies further reflects his commitment to creating opportunities for future generations.
Kristan will serve as Chancellor alongside his role as President and CEO of CILGC, managing the $10-billion federal Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program, which supports Indigenous groups in acquiring equity ownership in major projects.
