Second Loan Guarantee Issued Under the Federal Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program

Toronto, March 10, 2026—Canada Indigenous Loan Guarantee Corporation (CILGC) has issued its second loan guarantee under the federal Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program (ILGP), supporting Aamjiwnaang First Nation and Kettle & Stony Point First Nation in acquiring a nearly 20 per cent equity stake in the Chatham to Lakeshore transmission line in southwestern Ontario.

Completed in December 2024 and operated by Hydro One, the Chatham to Lakeshore transmission line is a fully operational regulated asset that generates stable and predictable revenues for its owners.

This transaction reflects the continued momentum behind Indigenous ownership in major infrastructure projects across Canada,” said Kristan Straub, President and Chief Executive Officer of CILGC. “By helping communities access affordable capital, the Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program enables First Nations to participate as equity partners in projects that generate long-term economic benefits.

Indigenous economic participation in the major projects that build and power our country—like the Chatham-to-Lakeshore transmission line—is an essential step in building Indigenous economic prosperity and reconciliation,” said the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue. “Canada only succeeds when every community has the opportunity to lead, reach their full potential, and share in the benefits of a strong economy.

The loan guarantee represents the second transaction completed under the program. Additional loan guarantees are currently in development and will be announced in the coming months.
