CILGC Statement on Recent Pipeline Announcements

Recent announcements regarding proposed pipeline developments point to a new era
in Canada’s approach to major infrastructure. As these projects move forward, they
present an opportunity to do things differently ensuring Indigenous communities are
consulted and have meaningful opportunities to share in the long-term benefits through
equity ownership.

Across Canada, Indigenous Nations are increasingly seeking a seat at the ownership
table. When communities have the opportunity to invest in projects on their traditional
territories, they help shape decisions that affect their lands and communities, generate
long-term revenues, and create opportunities for future generations. Ownership is
increasingly becoming an important part of economic reconciliation.

The Canada Indigenous Loan Guarantee Corporation (CILGC), a subsidiary of Canada
Development Investment Corporation (CDEV), was created to help make those
opportunities possible. By improving access to affordable financing, CILGC helps
remove one of the biggest barriers Indigenous communities have historically faced in
pursuing equity ownership. As major projects continue to emerge across the country,
CILGC stands ready to support Indigenous ownership opportunities wherever they align
with our mandate.

Canada has an opportunity to build major projects in a way that reflects a new
partnership between Indigenous Nations, governments and industry. We believe that
projects built with Indigenous communities, not simply around them, are better
positioned to create lasting benefits for everyone. We look forward to working with
Indigenous partners across the country to make Indigenous ownership a defining
feature of Canada’s next generation of infrastructure.
